image    The public, regardless of political differences, should line up and protect democracy, says the JVP Chief Ministerial candidate for the North Central Province at the upcoming polls, Wasantha Samarasinghe.  Speaking at a media briefing in Koswatta, Nawala today (August 19th) he said that the government, frantic by the notion of imminent defeat, is planning to rig votes at the August 23rd election. Claiming there is enough evidence to prove the charge, the JVP CM candidate said that ministers have booked nearly all rest houses in the province to accommodate their thugs at the expense of the state. The government is attempting to deprive the public of their right to democracy by burdening them with the expenses to rob victory for the UPFA, he charged. Mr. Samarasinghe said that a house located in the High Security Zone behind the Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura has become a hotspot for government thugs. Noting that state resources are being heavily misused in the campaigning, he said that the fuel expenses of the provincial Road Development Authority has increased to Rs. 4,600,000 in the past month from between Rs. 1,500,000 and 1,600,000 on average.
