The House assembled at 9.30 a.m. yesterday presided over by the Speaker W.J.M. Lokku Bandara. Following oral questions and answers, Mavai Senadirajah the TNA MP set out to speak, with the permission of the speaker on matters concerning air bombardments and claymore attacks on Kilinochchi recently.

Interrupting his speech, Wimal Weerawansa of the JVP raised a point of order. He told the House that another TNA MP Shivajilingam at the adjournment debate would submit the same matter and as such a special statement on the subject would be unnecessary.

Weerawansa said in an aggressive tone that an LTTE controlled part does not exist in this country. This is a sovereign country. Talks promoting the division of the country cannot be permitted. The speaker in his reply said that the controversial phrase had been deleted from Shivajilingam’s proposal.
